This style of Yoga focuses on Asana (Yoga postures) and Prana (breath control). Hatha’s meaning, forceful or willful, refers to the postures opening up the channels of the body to allow energy to flow more freely. In Hatha Yoga there is an emphasis on connecting movement in and out of the postures to inhalations and exhalations as well as uniting opposites like strength and flexibility. By linking breath to movement and creating cohesion between flexibility and strength practitioners are able to further connect mentally to their individual practice and ultimately attain greater self-realization.
It is recommended that practitioners wear clothing that is comfortable and easy to move in. Suggestions include leggings, athletic shorts, tank tops, t-shirts or something similar in nature. Socks are not to be worn during yoga classes as they could ultimately cause injury.
