Class Levels

*Level placement is solely based on skill + ability. The breakdown below provides an estimated level based on age.

LEVEL I, GRADES 2+

LEVEL II, GRADES 4+

LEVEL III, GRADES 6+

LEVEL IV, GRADES 9+

ballet LEVEL I-IV

The core foundation for all dancers who are serious about their dance training and technique.

At Etoile, students will learn the fundamentals of Classical Ballet, primarily from the Cecchetti Method. In beginner-level classes, students will spend time learning proper terminology. Ballet vocabulary is universal. In more advanced levels of Ballet, we will continue to utilize proper terminology as we transition students into seasoned performers with strong technique. Classes will begin at the ballet barre, progress to center work, and finish with across-the-floor exercises.

Each level will perform one costumed ballet piece in Etoile’s year-end showcase.

jazz levels i-iv

An energetic and stylized class rooted in traditional training.

This high-energy class incorporates upbeat music and allows dancers to further develop strong dance technique. The class begins with a safe and effective warm-up to develop strength, balance, and flexibility. Through progressions across the floor and short center dance combinations, dancers are challenged to explore the stylized elements of Jazz.

All students enrolled in Jazz must also be enrolled in Ballet.

Each level will perform one costumed jazz piece in Etoile’s year-end showcase.

tap LEVELs i-iv

A fusion of rhythm, musicality, and style in one high-energy class.

Tap is one of the oldest dance forms in the world with one of the most complicated histories, yet it is considered to be the most American of all dance forms. It has roots in the fusion of several ethnic percussive dances, including African tribal dances, English clog dancing, and Irish jigs. Dancers enrolled in Tap at Etoile will learn the importance of timing, rhythm, patterns, and style as they progress through tap technique. As they advance in level, dancers will shift from a more classical tap dancing often seen in Broadway performances, to a more rhythmic style, using their feet as instruments. In general, tap classes will begin with a center warm-up, followed by skill-building activities including work at the barre in lower levels, and tap choreography.

Each level will perform one costumed tap piece in Etoile’s year-end showcase.

CONTEMPORARY levels i-iv

A new-age genre of dance that fuses organic movement with technical elements from other styles.

Etoile’s contemporary curriculum fosters students' creativity, improvisation, and mastery of expressive movement through all levels. Classes begin with a warm-up and stretch, followed by various artistic exercises, progressions across the floor, and contemporary choreography.

All students enrolled in Contemporary must also be enrolled in Ballet

Each level will perform one costumed Contemporary piece in Etoile’s year-end showcase.

hip hop levels i-iv

A dynamic and expressive street-style of dance.

These fun and energetic classes will educate enrolled dancers on the History of Hip Hop as an art form. Students will improve upon performance quality, fluidity, sharpness, and musicality, as they advance through Etoile’s curriculum with age-appropriate music.

Each level will perform one costumed Hip Hop piece in Etoile’s year-end showcase.

acro tumbling levels i-iv

A combination of strength training, conditioning, acrobatics, and jazz technique.

The fundamentals of this curriculum will challenge dancers to set goals to achieve more advanced Acro feats. Acro class format generally begins with cardio and stretching, moves through progressions down the mat, and finishes up with individual instruction and spotting assistance for new tricks.

Each level will perform one costumed Acro Tumbling routine in Etoile’s year-end showcase.
